Surprise Winter Storm on the Homestead: Are You Prepared?

Surprise! Our predicted “light dusting” of snow turned out to be a full-blown winter storm! We got about 8″ of snow! Wow! Definitely not the norm for us here in Northwest Georgia.

There is always a lesson to be learned from surprises like this! For example, I couldn’t believe how many posts I was seeing on Facebook from local people who hadn’t filled their propane tanks yet! C’mon people, it’s December! If you plan on relying on propane for heat, don’t wait until you’re in the middle of a winter storm to try to fill your propane tank! And then, these people had the nerve to be outraged that the propane companies wouldn’t come out during the storm! Why on earth would you allow your tanks to get that low?

Is It Time to Prepare for World War III???

Should you be preparing for World War III?  That seems to be the big question of the moment for those who keep an eye on what’s going on around the world. The possibility is looking more and more likely with each passing day.

Tensions are rising all over the world. In fact, tensions in our own country are on the rise as well, mostly due to political differences. Economies are crashing. Terrorism is at an all-time high, and getting worse every day. Racial hate crimes are a common occurrence in many cities. Christians are being persecuted all over the world. Violence, in general, has become commonplace and almost goes unnoticed. The Victorio Hand Operated Grain Mill: Review

If you have never made a loaf of bread with freshly ground flour, you are truly missing out! Not only do freshly ground flours taste amazing, but they retain more of their nutrients. Also, you can store whole grains much longer than flours. Having your own grain mill gives you the advantage of using different grains or even beans to make flours, which is perfect if you have allergies or gluten intolerance. The Victorio Hand Operated Grain Mill is an affordable way to get started with grinding your own flour. We love ours and use it regularly for grinding grains, like wheat and oats, to make delicious homemade bread. We keep it clamped to the counter in our kitchen so that it is always ready to go. It does take some effort to grind the grains by hand, but I prefer to do it this way since no electricity is required. You can also purchase an electric motor for the Victorio Grain Mill if you want to save yourself some time by being able to multitask and do other things while the grain is grinding.
